Marigold Tagetes Essential Oil

Species: Tagetes glandulifera
Plant Family: 

Compositae.

Origins: 

Native to Africa but now also grown in France and North America.

Extraction: 

The essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the flowers. 

Properties: 

Anti-infectious, anti-microbial, antibiotic, anti-spasmodic, anti-parasitic, antiseptic, insecticide and sedative.

Usage & methods of application: 

Tagetes is a powerful oil and should ideally only be used under the supervision of a qualified aromatherapist. It's rarely used in aromatherapy but can be found in massage blends for the treatment of fungal infections, bunions, corns and calluses. It's also used in the treatment of wounds, cuts and abrasions as well as in massage blends aimed at easing the effects of chest infections etc. It can also be blended in a cream or lotion for the same reasons.

Tagetes is not often burned or vaporised because it's aroma is not the most attractive. It's occasionally used to alleviate the symptoms of coughs, colds, bronchitis & chest infections. It's also an effective insect repellent.

Blends well with: 

You may find that Tagetes blends especially well with clary sage, jasmine, lavender, lemon, myrrh, and tangerine.
